Small Changes, Huge Impact!

Offbeat

“The soul, like the body, accepts by practice whatever habit one wishes it to contact” ~ Socrates

Absolutely true!

We’ve made ourselves so busy that we’ve forgotten to feed our soul, to treat it with great care. We’ve been messing with our body silently and indirectly. So many times, our life is caught up in a rut or we don’t like the present situation we are in. New Year resolutions have been made and broken. Schedules have been prepared and un-followed. There is a constant rise and fall of motivation and confidence.

Maybe we don’t need big resolutions, to-do-list stuck on the fridge or schedules to be followed. Maybe some changes in our lifestyle can give us all the motivation we need. Some changes in habits can improve our lives. Little efforts can give you a kick to find success and happiness in life.

It’s never too late.

Let’s look at some changes that can impact our life greatly:

  • Quit Soda

Yes, quit drinking that soda right now! As much as you like Pepsi or Diet Coke, it is terrible for you. There are so many studies and research which prove that soda can harm your health. It can lead to obesity, kidney damage, digestive disorders etc. One can easily switch to green tea, lime water and other such options which are healthy and tasty as well.

  • Read

Say yes to reading, reading and lots of reading. It is the food for your brain. Just like our body needs exercise, our brain does too. It is very important to give our brains the mental workout essential for its performance. Make it a habit to read for at least 20 minutes in a day and see where it takes you in life.

  • No Phone Policy

There should be a no phone policy for at least 1 hour in our lives for every day. Seriously, we’ve become slaves to it! Spending time on Facebook, Instagram, Reddit etc have become such a habit that we don’t realize spending hours doing the mindless activity. Keep your phone away for at least 1 hour after you’re home from work.

  • Have Proper Breakfast

We’ve all heard and know this fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Our bodies have been deprived of food and water during sleep. If we don’t feed it by skipping breakfast, we’ll end up being less productive and less energetic for the rest of the day. Make sure to start your day with a good breakfast packed with proteins.

  • No Splurging

When you control your desires and start living within your means, half of your worries will melt down. We’re all working hard to pay our bills. But what’s the use when you always end up splurging, buying incessantly and in huge debts. This will cause you stress and dampen the quality of your life. If you don’t live within the means, you can be in a big trouble and don’t have any savings for future. Start by simply making a budget or cutting down on Sunday dinners.

  • No Escalators

The most common and repeated tip we’ve heard but still the most beneficial. At least once in a day, we should avoid escalator and take the route to stairs. Climbing upstairs is a great exercise; it provides flexibility to your leg muscles and most importantly, burns the calories.

  • Drink Water

Our body is made up of 60 percent water. It is very essential to keep your body hydrated. Water helps in the proper functioning of the body, digestion, boost metabolism and body temperature regulation. Know your body’s water requirement and start keeping a water bottle with you always.

  • Cook at Home

Nowadays, it has become a trend to eat outside. Whether it is hanging out with friends, watching a movie or going out for family dinners, eating out has become a tributary to socializing. Cooking at home has innumerable benefits. It is nutritious, safe, and clean and most of all you save money.

  • Sleep Well

Stop watching TV series at night, put off your phone away and get some sleep. Getting enough sleep is extremely important. Lack of sleep can make you tired and unproductive throughout the day. It eventually affects your health and quality of life. To get a good sleep, one must avoid caffeine before the bed.

  • Involve a buddy

This is a great way to keep you motivated. You can ask your friend, co-worker or a family member to join on your journey. Someone who will go to the gym with you, someone who is also trying to quit smoking or someone who can go swimming with you. Having someone with whom you can share your struggle and difficulties make it easier to keep you motivated.

  • Learn to Say No

We should all learn to say No! It is extremely difficult to keep everyone happy at the same time. It doesn’t harm to say no. If you don’t, you’ll end up getting crammed with more projects and commitment you can handle. It is okay to not be at others service, to not accept. Trust me, it will make your life stress free and drama free.

All these are definitely not easy but if you keep practicing, you’ll bring wonderful changes in your life.

Be Happy, Be Peppy. 🙂
